BUCHAREST | An Austrian citizen leading a drug trafficking group and two other people were detained by the DIICOT prosecutors after being caught carrying 40 kilograms of heroin on the Bucharest-Pitesti motorway worth two million Euros. The prosecutors of the Department for Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) – Central structure deconstructed a border organized criminal group specialized in international high-risk drugs trafficking from Turkey to the EU countries.
The leader of the group was identified to be Nicole Smith, an Austrian citizen, aged 44, under whom the group members have organized the purchase of large quantities of heroin from Turkey and the transportation of the drugs entering the territory of Romania on the land route to Austria.
Nicole Smith and her’s two accomplices were caught red-handed on Tuesday, on the Bucharest-Pitesti highway, the 40 kilograms of heroin being found in the cars. The drugs worth two million Euros were hidden in the vehicle’s tanks as packs. The Romanian Police investigation into this case began six months ago.
