BUCHAREST | Ion Balint, known as Nutu Camataru (Nutu the Money Lender), was released on Thursday morning from the Jilava prison after serving the remainder of his sentence of six years received in the file he was tried with his brother, Vasilel Balint, for pimping, money lending and trafficking.
Camataru told the journalists awaiting him out of prison Jilava that there are a lot of free spots inside the prison for them. “Because of you I got here and my brother is in prison in Germany all because of you,” he told reporters. Asked what he will do when he gets home, Nutu said the he will go to see his children and friends. He added that he would go to a TV station to make statements, saying: “Now I have nothing to lose”. Nutu Camataru left in a car waiting for him outside the prison.
Nutu Camataru surrendered on May 14, in the Capital Police arrest, after being sentenced on May 11 to six years of imprisonment in a case that was judged along with his brother Vasile Balint, known as Sile Camataru (Sile the Money lender), relatives and close ones, for acts of violence, prostitution, money lendering and trafficking. He had to execute a remaining sentence of about 40 days. After being imprisoned, Camataru filed a complaint against the execution at the Bucharest Court, asking to be released because he already executed more than six years in prison. His application was dismissed by the court.
