131 million Euros project abandoned in the Capital city downtown for over a year

BUCHAREST | In Autumn 2010, the City Hall started work on Splaiul Independentei – Ciurel – A1 Penetration. Several months later, work was stopped and remained so until now. The causes that led to blocking work were many. The first mistake was that the City Hall has started work without an approved Urban Area Plan.

Then, the municipality was sued by the owners in the area, and finally general councilors have left no budget for the project for 2011. Hall does not know now when will be taken up works. It all depends on the Bucharest General Council which must approve for work. So far, however, they rejected it several times.

On December 3, 2010, Mayor Sorin Oprescu participated in casting for the central pillar of the bridge foundation over Dambovita River, a fundamental element of the project Splaiul Independentei – Ciurel-A1  Penetration. Moreover, with great fanfare, mayor left a message for “aliens” in the main pillar. The message was placed in a metal tube and the mayor threw the pit 36 meters deep hole digged by builders for casting the central pillar of the bridge.
